WHO WE ARE
The Non-Profit Excellence Initiative (NEI) is a 501(c)(3) organization, governed by a Board of Directors, that exists to build stronger non-profits, greater accountability, and sustainable impact.
Strong communities are built by strong organizations. Too often, mission-driven leaders excel at the work itself but lack the governance, systems, and infrastructure that funders, banks, and partners expect. NEI closes that gap — bringing subject matter expertise in governance, compliance, and capacity-building to help organizations lead with excellence and earn lasting credibility.
Our founders and board members are respected leaders across the business and nonprofit sectors, bringing decades of proven track record to every organization we serve. That credibility is the foundation NEI is built on — and it's what allows the organizations we work with to become grant-ready, funding-ready, and bank-ready, workplace-ready, creating real, enduring impact in the communities they serve.
OUR HISTORY
The Nonprofit Excellence Initiative was born out of firsthand experience. Our founders didn't arrive at this work as outside consultants — we arrived as practitioners who spent years building, governing, and growing organizations from the inside, and who saw the same gaps show up again and again.
Too often, mission-driven leaders are exceptional at the work itself — serving their communities, delivering programs, building relationships — but under-resourced when it comes to the governance infrastructure, operational systems, and strategic credibility that funders, partners, and boards expect. We watched organizations with real impact struggle to be taken seriously, not because their mission wasn't strong, but because their bylaws, policies, financial controls, or strategic documentation weren't yet where they needed to be.
We started NEI because we believe that gap is solvable — and that no organization should be held back by infrastructure it simply hasn't had the time, expertise, or resources to build. Bringing together backgrounds in nonprofit leadership, executive coaching, and strategic consulting, our founders set out to create a resource that treats organizational excellence not as a luxury, but as a foundation every organization deserves access to.
What began as lessons learned through direct, on-the-ground leadership experience became a mission of its own: helping other organizations build the same excellence, capacity, and credibility we worked to build in our own.

Excellence reflects our commitment to sound governance — the bylaws, compensation and financial control policies, and compliance and ethics frameworks that give an organization the structural integrity to operate with confidence and accountability.
Capacity reflects our focus on building the practical tools organizations need to grow — from readiness training and development toolkits to logic models and curriculum design that turn strategy into action.
Credibility reflects the outcome of that work: organizations equipped with the governance, documentation, and strategic relationships that stakeholders can trust. As subject matter experts, we bring deep, specialized knowledge to every engagement — we don't just advise organizations on paper, we build the operational foundation that lets them deliver on their mission with strength and staying power.
